Wimbledon Adopts Video Replay Technology in 2025.

Wimbledon court with video review technology

The tournament joins the US and Aussie Opens in implementing video review systems.

Video review systems will be launched at Wimbledon this year.

Competitors will gain the option to challenge certain rulings from the official, echoing the system already in place at each of the American Grand Slam and the Australian Open.

The new system will be operational on Centre Court and the number one court throughout the tournament and on the other four featured courts when they are hosting singles contests.

This development comes just a year after the All England Club implemented electronic line calling, which terminated the 147-year role of line officials.

What Can Be Reviewed?

Competitors cannot to dispute the accuracy of the electronic line calling, but are allowed to ask for the official to re-examine specific situations, including:

  • Whether a ball has double-bounced.
  • If a ball made contact with an rival's racket or body during play.
  • Possible hindrance end of a point.

Notably, there is no cap on the amount of challenges a player can initiate.

Case in Point

An illustrative case took place in Indian Wells last week, where a top player initiated the review system against Jack Draper.

The British player admitted it was a tough situation for the official, but believed his opponent had "used the regulations effectively."

The umpire viewed a video and determined the player was responsible for interference, awarding the rally to Medvedev.

Growing Trend

This technology are not new for Grand Slams. The system has been in use at the American major for two years and the Aussie Open since 2025.

Additionally, it is increasingly prevalent on the women’s WTA Tour, and by the coming year the men's ATP Tour plans to have video reviews implemented at all of its events.

Further Updates

Another change at Wimbledon 2025 involves the introduction of graphical cues on displays to complement the audio calls from the electronic line calling system.

This addresses instances where the crowd have occasionally been uncertain whether a shot was in or out.

Finally, with exactly 100 days remaining until the beginning of the Championships, organizers have also revealed an expansion in daily capacity at the qualifiers in Roehampton.
